CULTURE DRIVES MUSIC & MUSIC REFLECTS CULTURE

African American culture is interwoven in many forms of American music and its impact on the 1960s, 70s & 80s was substantial. It was one of the most dynamic time periods in American history. These three decades served as a catalyst for massive social change, innovation, turmoil, and idealism. Music was used to advocate for the social, political, and economic disparities of the Black community of this time. To this day, music is a powerful tool and voice in culture and politics. Most of the music, and in this case Black music is a direct reflection of the cultural elements of the time. Know Your Soul Music is simply about how the culture of the time created R&B music and vice versa.
